Sierra Galeras: El Abra

El Abra is a new area at the shallow pass that separates Sierra Ancón and Sierra Galeras. It is a long hike, either from the south at the end of the road to the village of Ancón, or from the north near Costanera. The cliffs are on the red colored walls at the eastern end of Sierra de Galeras. The first of these is called Pared Roja, the Red Wall.

The route starts right behind the farmhouse. The first pitch crux is just below the belay. There are isolated hard moves, and only the last section of the last pitch is sustained. The name? Steel Hemorrhoids. There must be a vulgar story there.
